What to do with Mary Jane

Everyone loves Mary Jane, but will her Marvel Snap card be as beloved? Mary Jane spreads buffs wide to all of your cards that moved. She's the big points package card that hooks into this season, much like Venus was last season. Your opinion on Mary Jane might depend a lot on what your opinion of Venus was!

How Big Can She Get?

Other Cards Cards Moved Extra Power (MJ and otherwise)
Hydra Stomper, Professor X Nighcrawler, Spider-Man:BND, Jeff (original) +7
Kraven Silk, Batroc up to +8
Fan-Fei, Venus Vulture, Kraven, Multiple Man +23

Mary Jane can be a part of some huge Power gains involving move facilitators like Sparky, Hercule, Fan Fei, and Heimdall moving cards like Dagger and Human Torch. She's not the only source of Power for these combos, but adding an extra 3-8 Power (or even more) to these plays could make Move the primary point-scaling archetype in the game this season.

How To Move A Lot

Multi-Movers

A lot of the most popular move enablers focus on moving individual cards more times. And for good reason. Moving your Human Torch around a bunch with the help of cards like Sparky, Doctor Strange, and Hercules makes him huge! But Mary Jane works very well with some of the more forgotten move-enablers in the game. Mary Jane essentially duplicates Fan Fei's buffs, which are already likely to be on moving scalers that grow themselves. Both Xorn and Topaz can move up to three cards in a single turn as well. Heimdall is the real beneficiary of Mary Jane. This card has long felt too weak and linear. But Heimdall is one of the only reliable ways to move 4+ cards around on the last turn and there are some ways to go absolutely crazy with Mary Jane and some move scalers.

Little Self-Movers

We have so many little controllable Movable cards now that you can save them up for an explosive last turn with Mary Jane. Imagine the difficulty your opponent will have calculating how much Power you will have in each lane if you move Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Nightcrawler, Jeff, Batroc, Silk, Spider-Punk, and Rocket & Groot all on the last turn.

This deck uses all of the classic move scalers but tries to concentrate their moves into a few key turns.

This deck lets us make a gigantic Hydra Bob! What could be more fun than that?! Mary works better than Stomper here because IW/Mary/Venus lets us put the power onto the mover, rather than a face-up card already on board.

Prof Prison

Your opponent may think they've won a particular lane, but they forgot to account for one of your many Power boosts or movements on the final turn. Confusion is a legitimate win-con this season.

Topaz Punk

Cloak, Topaz, and Fan Fei allow us to pick which turns we go for explosive amounts of movement. We can focus on a giant Torch or Afflict key opposing cards multiple times with Punk.

Is She Worth It?

I think Mary Jane is going to surprise some people with her points output. All the talk of being "worse Hydra-Stomper" doesn't apply when you're multiplying Mary Jane's effect with either scaling movers or tricks like Venus or Invisible Woman. Plus, there's no rule against playing the two cards together, much like Stick and Maverick. Mary Jane is the archetype points payoff of the season. She might be counter-able at nosebleed MMR, but she'll put out enough points for most players to get use out of her. Plus, with her lynchpin role, Second Dinner may be quick to give her an extra point of Power if she lands flat. I am of the belief that a $10 card is great value and Mary Jane is worth it. If you're not at all interested in the mental load of running a move deck, go ahead and skip her. But if you're excited for this season and the move archetype, you've hit the jackpot with Mary Jane.
