What to do with Jane Foster Fractured Frontier

Have you ever imagined Mjolnir as a gun?! Thanks to Second Dinner, you no longer have to! Here comes Jane with her gunhammer! This card is yet another in a long line of 3-Cost points cards, but is the shape of her points good enough for her to get into some decks? Here is everything I’m excited to try with the new Jane Foster Fractured Frontier card!

Is She Worthy?

Just how much Power can she account for?

She starts with 4 Power of her own, which is a solid starting point. Assuming there are enough bodies on board for her full effect (and there will not always be 4 bodies on Turn 3), she can account for decent Power. How much Power?

8 12 16

I’d say the floor is around 7, but 16 is a really solid ceiling for a 3-Cost card. It’s not often you’ll get the full 16, but 3/12 is pretty great too.

Is Spreading Power Good?

Some of the most powerful recent strategies have been focused on stacking huge power onto a single card (Maverick, Human Torch, etc). Spreading wide has been a lot less successful historically (Kahhori, Karen Page). At 3-Cost Jane has an advantage over those other cards, but spreading wide, and randomly to a degree, is just less powerful in a game where you need to win two locations out of 3. Some of that Power is destined to be wasted in a lane you’re not trying or able to contest.

Plus, some decks just won’t be able to have the bodies ready. If you draw her on Turn 3, you’ll want to play her right away to get the added benefit of her Quickdraw. That means you’ll want to have a couple of your own cards on board already, something not a lot of Silver Surfer decks do, for example.

Worthiest Targets

The ideal target would be something that is low-Cost, but has a way to multiply or further leverage that Power. Unfortunately, there aren’t many 1s and 2s that can do that, but there are some good choices in the 3-Cost spot. How much do we really want to lean into the Affliction side of things? You can just rely on it as incidental Power, since it’s pretty likely that Cage can wipe it out. Still, there are some soft synergies we can lean into, Diamondback being one of the best. I think Affliction may be a surprisingly good landing spot for Jane.

Any extra Power we can get onto Lasher, Frankie, or Shaw pays dividends later. She can act as decent redundancy for Ironheart on Turn 3.

I'm surprisingly excited about Jane in a Big Scorp deck as just some solid and reliable Power. She can account for that high-end of 16+ more easily in a deck like this than some of her other potential homes, thanks to Scorp and Diamondback multiplying her judgements on opposing cards.

Jane can help make a Stick stack, but we need bodies down early to get full benefit from her.

Jane onto Askani'son or Iron Patriot is a very appealing line to get a powerful head start ahead of a Supergiant turn.

A 1, a 2, and a bunch of 3s. Cable is in there for good measure as a later turn play that can provide some options. Jane and Psylocke are both pretty good with the new Season Pass card, so something like this can let you try all three.

Final Thoughts

Jane represents solid, dependable, but ultimately replaceable stats. There’s not much that she does that you absolutely can’t replicate with a different card. For most decks, that is. I do think she’ll find her niche and there will be some decks where she is clearly in the list of 12. If you’re tight on resources, though, don’t sweat it too much.
