Monster Island

Meta Warp Rating
Some hot/featured locations have a bigger influence than others. This rating (0–5 stars) represents how much you can benefit by building a deck specifically targeting (or countering) the location.
★★★☆☆
It's easy for Monster Island's impact to feel negligible – like a more extreme version of Shadowland (handing out Ninjas) or Destroyed Mansion (handing out Rocks).
In fact, the Monster's 6/10 stats change everything. There are a bunch of interesting ways to leverage your Monster or deal with your opponent's.
There's a strong argument for four stars, but I've held it back because the decks that convert Monster Island into the biggest advantage are less viable when the hot location doesn't appear.
It's up to you whether you want to chase margins with a meta deck or play something off the beaten path that will sing… but only in half your games! Both are viable. Good Snapping and retreating just might convert the off-meta stuff into more Cubes overall.

Meta Wiccan
This is a top performer since the latest balance changes… and yet it features a bunch of ways to capitalize on Monster Island.
- Helps trigger Caliban's ability
- Provides two extra bodies for an early Jane Foster
- Helps trigger En Sabah Nur's ability
- is an excellent target for Thanos's Reality Shot – just make sure to avoid playing other cards there before Turn 5
Patriot Rocks
This might be the only place I ever recommend Caiera. This is the rare opportunity for her to protect both your 1- and 6-Costs, with the Monsters sitting vulnerable on the board for at least three turns (plus it's hot, so people will be running Cobra and Shang). Monster Island has synergy with seven of the cards in this deck!
Monster Island is an extremely cool location for Legion. Sure, your opponent gets two more Monsters, too, but you're ready for them. Plus you have a bunch of cards to make your Monsters more valuable than your opponent's.
Monster Island Special
Take out your opponent's Monster with Cobra or Shang, then use Fenris to claim it as your own.
Killmonger and Polymorph help us clean up The Hood. There are a bunch of other good Polymorph targets here, just make sure you use your Activate cards before replacing them. Killmonger additionally helps Cobra, Danger, and Thanos hit higher-Power targets.
Credit where it's due: this is my modern spin of an old SafetyBlade invention.
Dormammu
Take out your Monster with Fastball Special or Venom, and then play Dormammu's first Ritual to double-dip on your Monster's Power.
Virus
Since Tarantula and Fisk both accept ties, Monster Island ensures you'll pretty much always be able to use them. The Monsters additionally make for fine Virus targets and help discount Skaar. They also help Kluh hand out additional discounts; but that perk is smaller since your opponent gets it, too.
There are lots of viable substitutes if you're missing cards or are uncomfy running cards like Martyr, Adam, and Kluh. Replacements include: Hydra Bob, Scarlet Witch, Shadow King, Red Hulk FF, Ares, and Monstro. Shadow King has historically been great in Virus decks, but I'm lower on him when Thanos is in the deck pressuring you to play cards early.
