Grand Prizes

The Free Pass contains the new card, Quicksand! She'll enter Series 4 in a month. She's the kind of meta-dependent tech card you want in your collection!

The Premium Pass contains this exclusive Variant for Quicksand by System Studios. This one's for anybody who prefers clothing on their big-haired sand ladies.

Missions

Progress in High Voltage is bottlenecked by Missions. While you do get some Volts and XP from winning, it's a fraction of what you'll earn from Missions.

Overdrive's Missions grant 125, 250, or 500 Volts and XP.

  • Starting Missions: 3
  • Regenerating Missions: 3 every 8 hours
  • Missions Cap: 3 (you cannot have more than this)
  • Total Missions: 63
  • Total Mission Emblems + XP: 18,375
  • Single Mission Cost: 40 Gold

Passes

The Premium Pass costs 800 Gold and comes with the following prizes whenever you buy it:

  • 5,000 XP
  • 2 Heavy Metal Borders

Here's everything you can find on each Pass (Premium instant rewards listed at 0 XP):

Premium Value

The progress value (counting only prizes that help you acquire cards) of the Premium Pass is right on par with all other recent events: 63.42%.

If you optimize your resources for acquiring new Series 4 and 5 cards, the Premium Pass is not worth buying.

It can be a great buy if you want to…

  • Get Quicksand without playing Overdrive
  • Get more cosmetics from the event
  • Acquire Series 3 cards

The instant XP from the Premium Pass will let you get Quicksand without playing a single game.

Alternatively, if you want to play the mode, the Premium Pass includes 7,000 extra Volts to spend in the Shop.

Time Investment

Like other modern events, this one is totally reasonable. As long as you focus on Missions, you'll have no problem earning Quicksand for free (even with a low win rate).

With a 50% win rate, the Premium Pass will save you ~26 games (whether you're chasing Quicksand or a completed Pass).

Shop

Here's everything you can spend your Volts on!

Gold prices come from past runs of Overdrive (I'll double-check them when the event is live).

Of the Variants in the shop:

  • H.E.R.B.I.E. is Series 5
  • Arnim Zola is Series 3
  • Klaw is Series 1

Matching avatars for this event’s exclusive Variants remain absent (it's been a trend for the last several events).

Each Portal Pull will randomly give you one of these three Variants you don't have yet:

Shop Priorities

You’ll need to decide for yourself how important any of the cosmetics are to you. If you want to optimize for progress value (card acquisition), here’s how you should prioritize your prizes. Ellipses represent big gaps in value differences.

  1. H.E.R.B.I.E. (unowned base card) in 1 pull
  2. H.E.R.B.I.E. (unowned base card) in 2 pulls
  3. H.E.R.B.I.E. (unowned base card) in 3 pulls
  4. Arnim Zola (unowned base card) in 1 pull
  5. Series 3 Pack
  6. Collector's Series 4 Pack
  7. Credits
  8. Arnim Zola (unowned base card) in 2 pulls
  9. Arnim Zola (unowned base card) in 3 pulls
  10. All other Variants

Spending Gold

When you're short on Volts, you can cover the gap with Gold. It's an inefficient way to spend Gold, but some people place higher value on speed or cosmetics. If you are going to spend any Gold in the Shop, you should be strategic about what you spend it on. Every item has a different conversion rate. In the purple tables above, the items with higher "Volts per Gold" have better conversion rates.

Expected Volts

Knowing how many Volts you'll end up with can help you plan your Shop purchases.

If you stop playing as soon as you complete the Pass, you’ll have 19,510 Volts on the Free Pass, or 21,500 on the Premium.

If you clear every Mission that generates for free, you'll have 26,635 Volts on the Free Pass or 33,635 on the Premium.

Conclusion

Events continue to be super consistent in their prizing. This run of Overdrive holds just a bit more potential value than the last one. March's had a Series 4 card in the Portal Pull while this one has a Series 5. It's really nice to see a Series 5 among the prizes – it's been a while! It offers great value for anybody who doesn't have H.E.R.B.I.E. already.

That's not all roses, though. Depending on your luck with the Portal Pull, H.E.R.B.I.E. (or Klaw or Zola, if you prefer) could be really expensive. Like you could check in to clear your Missions 3 times a day and still have just enough for three Portal Pulls.

As long as the following things continue to stay true, I think events are doing well:

  • It’s quick to get the new card, even if you don't play well
  • It only costs 800 Gold to skip the event and still get the new card
  • Exclusive Variants and Snap Packs help new and returning players catch up

I personally tend to skip the Premium Pass to save my Gold for other things. It's totally reasonable to buy the Premium if it fits you though! It's a pretty good deal if you care about skipping the event or acquiring more cosmetics.
