What to do with Tombstone

Tombstone was laying back in the cut, hiding in the game files for a long time. He was first detected in the data files all the way back in July 2024! Well we’re finally getting this classic Spider-Man Villain and his ability means he’s been worth the wait! I think this is the most powerful card of the season and you can get him for free from the Team Clash, LTGM! Here’s everything I’m excited to try with Tombstone!

Why He's Great

Destroy is a notoriously tight archetype and new cards have a lot of trouble breaking in. However, this is largely because they're not cards that either Destroy or want to be destroyed. Cards like a Weapon X and Morgan Le Fay have trouble slotting into traditional Destroy and demand the entire deck be rebuilt around them. Even Muse has struggled to elevate the archetype despite being a pretty powerful payoff. Destroy just wants cards to kill or be killed!

Tombstone is different. He actually destroys cards. And he's cheap! And targeted! This is just the fourth 2-Cost card that can destroy after Carnage, Fastball Special, and Kid Omega and the only card that can destroy in multiple lanes other than Killmonger and Destroyer. Of course, Tombstone is a lot easier to control than those two cards due to his precise targeting.

The Targets

Low-Cost Targets

Tombstone makes a great Deadpool enabler on early turns and it's pretty easy to make sure X-23 is the lowest-Power card in a lane on later turns, and Tombstone will help with X-23's erratic and occasionally frustrating bouncing around. Tombstone's targeting means we can easily place cards like Moira or Headpool where they need to be to be destroyed.

Solo Targets

Just because Tombstone destroys the lowest-Power card, doesn't mean it needs to be a low-Power card. A Nimrod in each lane or a fat, juicy Wolverine that has bounced to a hard-to-reach lane will make great targets for Tombstone. We can Combine Tombstone with cards like Fastball Special and Adamantium Infusion to great Impact. Tombstone can also be a powerful anti-Clogging card.

Tombstone-Specific Board States

There are times when Tombstone will be the best destroy option and Venom, Carnage, or Deathlok simply won't do.

Deadpool, X-23 split: If you've played any amount of Destroy you know how frustrating it can be if your X-23 gets stranded in a place where you don't want to, or can't, easily destroy her and Deadpool together. Tombstone will be ideal for this scenario.

Double Nimrods: A lone Nimrod in each lane, whether they have 6-Power or 12, makes the perfect board state for a Powerful Tombstone turn. You could even play Tombstone and then Venom/Carnage into the same or one of the Nimrod lanes as long as they're played after Tombstone!

Closed Location Kill: Sometimes you just get unlucky with locations and you end up with a key card you need to Destroy in a location you can't play into.

Kill and revive with Adamantium Infusion immediately: You could kill a giant Venom in one lane with Tombstone and immediately revive him with Adamantium Infusion wherever you need him!

We can simply add Tombstone to this classic Deadpool Destroy list in place of Deathlok. The flexibility of Tombstone is superior.

Is He Worth It?

That depends on how much you like Team Clash. He's pretty easy to acquire in that mode through play alone, or you can just spring for the event pass and get him right away. I do think this is a card you want to go out of your way to get, even if you're not traditionally a big Destroy player.
