Zombie Black Cat: Decks & Tips for the New Card

The OTA just brought in a series of Discard buffs and now the struggling archetype is finally getting a new synergy card! Undead Felicia Hardy is here to set off some chain reactions and get you some extra Discard triggers! Here's everything I want to try with the new Zombie Black Cat card.

Now that's a text box!

When Discarded Cards

A list of cards that have when discarded text to be discarded when a discarder discards a when discarded card or discards Black Cat, who will also discard another when discarded card when discarded. Semantic satiation is when a word starts to feel like nonsense after too much repetition. When Discarded.

Not all of these will see play with Zombie Black Cat, but it's worth looking at the whole list. Could something like X-23 finally break into the Discard archetype? Could this finally be Weapon H's time? Also of note is that Daken's Muramasa Shard does not have "when discarded" text. (Update: She can Discard the Shard!)

Why Would I Play This Card?

We already have Proxima, why would I play this card that has less Power? First of all, you can play both and they have subtly different targeting for where they'll end up. Second, and I think it's somehow being overlooked by some in the Snap community, she gives you a free additional Discard trigger. This is not only big for Morbius and Miek, but can mean additional triggers on cards like Scorn, Apocalypse, and Khonshu that you wouldn't otherwise get. She is another target for our random discarders and helps us make sure we're getting a profitable Discard out of them more often. There are situations where you can even get two triggers on one of these cards in the same turn! You can go from a new Khonshu straight to Full right away. Black Cat will mean bigger Apocalypses, Draculas, Collectors, and more. She's a synergy piece that adds consistency and high-roll. She's not just 5-Power for your board – though that's not bad! – she's glue for your deck!

Abusing the New Card

With every new Snap card, one of the first things I try to do is stretch it to its absolute limit.

A Pack of (Dis)Cards

This greedy combo deck uses Moon Girl to fill it's hand with "when discarded" cards that it then uses M.O.D.O.K. to place a bunch of Power onto the board on the last turn. Makkari is here to help reduce our hand size to get maximum benefit from Moon Girl, but you can replace her with Wolverine if you feel like you're not having hand size issues, a defensive card like Luke Cage if you need matchup help, or original Black Cat if you feel like you're not benefitting from her 3 Power very often.

This deck has a singular goal: make a gigantic Apocalypse. With M.O.D.O.K. or Corvus we have a chance at getting two Apoc discards on the same turn! Blade, Zombie Power Man, and Gambit aren't always going to hit Apoc, but Black Cat gives them a higher chance to do so.

Is She Worth It?

This card is being tragically underrated, which is understandable because Discard has been so uncompetitive lately. But with the recent wave of buffs and the release of this card, expect to see this classic archetype a lot more. If you're an old Discard main looking for a reason to jump back into the deck, grab this card. But she has appeal for other types of players too. She's an interesting puzzle card and that's where my personal excitement for her comes from. I'm looking forward to trying all sorts of builds to get the most out of her, whether that's as a little free icing on a Bullseye cake or the anchor of a new Apocalypse strategy.
