Vampire Enchantress: Decks & Tips for the New Card
Vampire Enchantress is a powerful new finisher!
What could be more enchanting than a vampiric sorceress? How about a new big 6-drop finisher? Vampire Enchantress is all that and more. Here is everything I'm excited to try with the new Vampire Enchantress card!
Seductive Synergies
We know she's big, but is she big enough to be the new de facto giant finisher in the vein of Fin Fang Foom, Blob, Red Hulk, and so many others before her? Or do we need to lean into one or more of her synergy hooks? How much to we need to focus on getting a wide spread of Costs?
Weird Costs
Having a full range of costs helps VE fulfill her potential as a giant 6-Cost finisher. This type of card, by virtue of attacking just a single lane, needs to be enormous. It can't just be big, it needs to be big enough to solo a lane or close enough to it, so that you can devote enough of your prior resources to locking up another lane. She counts her own Cost, so she starts as a 6/9 by herself, barring any interference from Cosmo, Cage, or similar obstacles. From 0-8, there are 9 different Costs available (Death is no longer a 9, but we do have Elder Dragon of the Moon coming up next month).
Vampire Enchantress Scaling
| # of Costs In Play | Total Power Output |
|---|---|
| 2 | 11 |
| 3 | 13 |
| 4 | 15 |
| 5 | 17 |
| 6 | 19 |
| 7 | 21 |
| 8 | 23 |
| 9 | 25 |
Trying to get a card if every Cost 0-8 sounds like a fun, if totally impractical challenge. That she steals Power means she can account for a huge points swing, even if we only have 4 to 6 different Costs in play, which I think is the most reasonable target range for her.
If you only have 4 different Costs in play, but play her in a lane with three opposing cards and your own Diamondback, she will provide a 21-point Power swing. Not bad, but not among the highest output 9 Energy can produce in this game.
Here are some cards that can help get a wider range of Costs into play before the last turn, so that she can account for a ton of points.

Affliction
Diamondback might be a small enough commitment that she could act as the lone Affliction amplifier in a Vampire Enchantress-focused deck, but it's also possible to build an entire deck around VE’s Affliction synergy.
Stealing is the trendy flavor of Affliction, and this is the “new” sub-archetype for this season. Especially after seeing how Vampire Killmonger has landed, I'm pretty high on Deacon Frost. Vampire Enchantress as a way to brute force a second lane is a big part of the reason I'm so optimistic. Even if Vampire Enchantress isn't good enough to be the new default 6-Cost finisher, she'll definitely take that role in a Deacon Frost Power-stealing deck. Such an all-in strategy is quite vulnerable to Luke Cage, though.

Kluh Top-End
Between discounts from 10s, plus those from Kluh or Thanos FF, it's entirely possible to play Skaar and Vampire Enchantress out together on the last turn for a powerful two-pronged attack. Don't be afraid to tap your Askani'son right away to get a 1-Cost on board.
Eaffliction
Polaris, Dragon Lord, Jubilee, and Stryfe provide us with plenty of ways to get our top end out onto the board without even paying their Cost. Even if your Vampire Enchantress fires early, it's no big deal if you can follow it up with big Scorp.
Is She Worth It?
While there is some flop potential for this card as a big finisher (is she actually reliably big enough?), you'll want this card if you're planning to build the Deacon Frost Power-stealing deck. I think there's enough here to believe she’s worth it outside that deck alone, but it's not a slam dunk, so you might want to wait for some data to accrue before making a decision if you're similarly iffy on Deacon Frost. If you're excited for both, grab her now and learn her ins and outs before her forever home comes along later in the month. This is exactly the type of card that gets nerfed if it truly becomes a reliable finisher, so that is also a consideration for those who are especially tight on resources.
