Further Thoughts:

Jack Flag

There may be a surprise card that is better, but Jack Flag is the easiest card to rank highly. Pure Power and certain synergy in a handful of archetypes including Spectrum, Aurora, and Surfer.

Star-Lord, Master of the Sun

He sorta lets you borrow energy from all your previous turns. Having heaps of energy later is strong. You can better react to where your opponent has invested and you are harder for your opponent to predict. Big upside with good Power, and that's before anything cute like Grandmaster.

Drax, Avatar of Life

He's the premier 3-Cost for high Power in big-card metas. The fact that he's face-up and controlled by your opponent is tricky, but it applies a lot of pressure to your opponent. He'll break your heart sometimes, but I expect he'll win matches more often. Very low investment on your part and will almost always have at least 7 Power.

Magus

Obviously a huge downside that he can't be used with On Reveals or Activates, but you can build your deck so that certain Costs are always good hits. I admit this ranking is mostly on vibes and this is a card that deserves to be measured on actual deckbuilding — but there are a bunch of cards that seem like good hits (e.g., Agony, Cerebro, Mister Fantastic, Iron Man, Sera, Tribunal).

Kraglin

The new easiest way to have six Energy on Turn 4. That's a good thing, but his ability makes it tough to guarantee. The other half of his ability is pretty bad. 3/7 is fine, but you wouldn't run a card that was only 3/7: banish your top card. Wiccan and Ramp might like him, plus I expect Banish synergy in the future that will make him better.

Starhawk

The two biggest problems are that the Power output is pretty low and that it's a hard 2-Cost to play early. Has some decent synergies with stuff like Jack Flag and Captain Carter, but I really doubt this card deserves a spot in any deck.

Moondragon

Her Power is decent, but I'm not sure if she goes in any deck but Doom 2099. I've got her so low because she's awful after Turn 2.

Major Victory

He might be good for low-CL players. He just gets outclassed really quickly if your plans are to synergize with Devil Dino or Victoria Hand. If we lean into the Guardians, he has synergy with Daredevil, Jean Grey, and Sanctum Showdown. I really like the idea of cards that shine brightest in specific events. I hope he gets buffed quickly — he'd be wayyy more interesting at 2-Cost.

Scott’s Rankings

  1. Jack Flag
  2. Drax, Avatar of Life
  3. Star-Lord, Master of the Sun
  4. Kraglin
  5. Moondragon
  6. Starhawk
  7. Magus
  8. Major Victory

Further Thoughts:

Jack Flag

It’s not so much that I think Jack Flag is amazing as I just am having trouble bumping either Drax or Star-Lord up into the number one spot. He’s reliable points and has a couple of new synergy hooks to unite cards like Maverick and Captain Carter.

Drax, Avatar of Life

I think it’s impossible to truly know what Drax will feel like until we get some games in with him. I suspect he will be a powerful way to lock opponents out of games, but he could prove a fragile tool that your opponent can play around.

Star-Lord, Master of the Sun

It’s true that Star-Lord, MotS is significantly better now that he gains power than in his initial datamined form. I don’t think he’s going to be a Shou-Lao level dominant Season Pass card, though.

Kraglin

I suppose a card that is either a 3/7 or gives you a H.E.R.B.I.E.-level energy boost is decent. I just don’t know exactly what he’s displacing. If we get some kind of synergy with Banishing the top card of your deck in the future, Kraglin will have more value.

Magus

So, he copies the text of a card, but doesn’t work with Activates or On Reveals? What are we using him for then? Tribunal is one idea as that deck has one 6-Cost it needs to hit and added benefit if you use him to dig for Iron Man or something. Other Ongoings like Sera or Moonstone are possibilities. This is surely a shenanigans card, which means someone could always discover some cracked combo that becomes competitive, but I just haven’t heard one yet.

Moondragon

Is she even good enough to see play in Doom 2099 decks? She’s worse than Chamber in Ramp decks and she’s not even a slam dunk in Doom 2099 decks over something like Psylocke. There’s a narrow crack for her in a Doom 2099/End of Turn deck with First Steps Invisible Woman, but if that doesn’t prove to be good enough, I fear Moondragon will be homeless.

Starhawk

He’s points. I thought about slotting him above Moondragon and Magus, but I don’t know that there is a deck that desperately wants him. However, I can imagine quite a few useful play lines and synergies for him, so I don’t think Starhawk is a dead card.

Major Victory

Major Victory on the other hand, might be dead on arrival. At a minimum I’m gonna play the heck out of him in Sanctum Showdown. As the only way to access Rocket Raccoon in that mode, he may actually be quite good there. Though, even in that mode Turn 3 is often one you want Power, rather than set up, on. If he at least had 5-Power I would feel more sure he’s at least a great Sanctum card.
