What to do with Moondragon

Everything I'm Excited to do with Moondragon

Wait, didn't we just get this card? No, that was Dragon of the Moon. Did they really release these in back-to-back seasons? Surprisingly, there is a lore connection between the two. While training with the mystical martial arts monks of Shao-Lom, Heather Douglas accidentally makes astral contact with the Dragon of the Moon while meditating. The dragon digs into her mind and tries to corrupt her, but she is able to fight it off. Proud of her victory, she names herself Moondragon.

Moondragon is the kind of card that tells you exactly what to do with it in the text. Play a single card each turn and use all of your Energy. Like Wiccan, she rewards you for playing on curve, but she demands you do it all game if you can. There's one obvious synergy in Doom 2099. Ramp decks also like to play a sequence of 1-2-3-5-6-7 using all of their energy.

Are there any on curve sequences outside of Doom 2099 or Ramp? Not really. A Living Tribunal deck might take that line sometimes, but generally prefers to play multiple cards with Sera. I could also imagine a very early Series player getting I use out of a play line that ends in Devil Dinosaur or Darkhawk followed by something like Magneto or Doctor Doom.

Is She Worth It?

I don't think Moondragon is a terrible card, but she is quite limiting. You really need to lean into her conditions during deck-building to get the most out of her and then you need to actually draw her early enough to repay that effort – she gets significantly worse after Turn 2. The other issue is that we just got a card that outcompetes her in most decks in Chamber. If the Doom 2099 deck is great, and you actually have interest in playing it, you'll be over the moon with your purchase. Otherwise, save your Tokens.
