What to Do With Marrow

Marrow isn't exactly the most busted card Second Dinner has ever released, but there are still some attractive play lines for the ultimate 90s X-Man.

Marrow seems to have gotten a late bump in the development process from afflicting -6 up to -7, which honestly makes a massive difference in her playability. She's most likely to go in Discard decks and this keeps her level with Proxima Midnight in total points.

She's essentially a 0/7 in Discard and a 2/7 in Destroy. Of course both decks can get added benefit from triggering her beyond those simple numbers.

So what are we actually doing with this card?

Discard 

She just works much better in Discard than Destroy because you don't actually have to pay her cost. The difference between her and Proxima is that Proxima spikes a single lane, including closed-off locations, while Marrow attacks wide. I think it's going to be hard for her to edge out Proxima, but there will be metas and hot locations that are better suited to Marrow. Even in the rare awkward situation where you need to play the card out for its energy cost, Proxima is still better value in most situations.

I like Marrow best in a Bullseye deck as an additional way to spread Affliction. Get a Marrow off early and multiple Bullseyes off late and your opponent could have serious trouble staying in the positive in some locations.

Bullseye > Frigga > Bullseye > M.O.D.O.K. (discarding Marrow along with Swarm and others), Activate Bullseye 1, Activate Bullseye 2.

Destroy

If you really want to use Marrow in a Destroy deck, the only play line that makes sense is Venom into Marrow so that she's an effective 2/9. As with Discard, I think it's unlikely there's something there with an Affliction sub-theme.

If you want to try the earliest versions of the Destroy/Discard hybrid deck that is being pushed this season, you'll need to get Wild Child from Team Clash, but I'm going to wait for Fantomex to come out at the end of the month.
