What to do with Majestic Wingbeat

Everything I’m excited to try with Majestic Wingbeat

Majestic Wingbeat is our newest, inexpensive stand alone Skill card. Whose Skill is this? Is Majestic Wingbeat a Skill someone can learn? How many hours does it take for a young Dragon to master their Majestic Wingbeat?

I think this card is somewhat niche, but I definitely see some excellent uses, especially with the powerful new Season Pass card, Shou-Lao the Undying. Come with me as I run through all of my favorite play lines and synergies with the new Series 4 card.

Buff Target > Majestic Wingbeat > Shou-Lao the Undying

The two are releasing the same day and are clearly made for each other. The fact that Shou-Lao says “Character,” not “Card,” means you could play Majestic Wingbeat in between your buff target and Shou-Lao.

The Optimal Composition of a Majestic Wingbeat Deck

To get the most out of Majestic Wingbeat you should have:

Multiple 5-6 cost cards, in order to increase your odds of hitting one

OR

Multiple targets that can further leverage the buff, by increasing it or doubling it

Big Targets, Bigger Benefits

But what are some other solid 5 and 6-Cost targets for Wingbeat? As criteria, we're mostly going to be looking for cards that are a part of some combo that become more reliable or powerful with a reduction in Cost and/or a Power buff.

Whether played separately or together, these are prime Majestic Wingbeat targets.

Agamotto has felt weak in the meta for a while, but he feels considerably stronger when you can get him out early. Majestic Wingbeat can slot right into a “Skills matter” Agamotto/Nicholas Scratch deck.

Leftmost you say? Agatha will always be in the right spot! Discounting Agatha means you can play her a turn early (and decide where she goes), even in an Agatha deck without ramp. An Agatha/Hela deck is a target rich environment, even if you discard your Agatha early, which you’re definitely hoping to do.

Iron Man is always one of the ideal targets when we get new cards that buff or cheat out other cards. Iron Man can benefit from Majestic Wingbeat in a uniquely powerful way by doubling whatever buff he gets.

If you hit Fallen one early, you can just immediately ramp into 7 energy for turn 5. I think Majestic Wingbeat is awkward with most of the other ramp cards, but has really solid synergy with this one.

Destroy Packages

Within the Destroy archetype, we have a strong collection of targets. You can profitably hit Nimrod, Knull, or Death at 5+, but hitting Deadpool could excite you as well. Destroy decks are highly synergistic and have become quite tight, so it's hard for any new card to crack in, but I think Wingbeat merits a bit of experimentation.

Angela > Zombie Scarlet Witch > Majestic Wingbeat + The Hunger

Cheap skills are always going to get looks with the wide variety of cards that reward playing a bunch of cards. That includes Zombie Scarlet Witch, Hope Summers, Bishop, and others, but the best positioned such card is Werewolf by Night. Skills are great with Werewolf, not just because he's cheap, but because of the flexibility he cannot provide to squeeze a Wolf into a lane that already has 3 cards in it.

Majestic Wingbeat is a solid Series 4 release – it's worth experimenting with in a few existing and new archetypes and might enable some shenanigans, but isn't so overpowered that it's a slam dunk that everyone needs to buy. You can happily skip it, but if you get every new release, there are plenty of things to try.

If you’re interested in more deck lists, I’ve built out 4 other concepts that center Majestic Wingbeat below for our paid supporters. Included are my pet Galactus deck and a Fallen One deck.
