What to do with Lockheed

What to do with Lockheed

Everything I'm excited to try with Lockheed!

What are we doing with Lockheed? Isn't it obvious? We're playing Kitty Pryde!

There is definitely some top down design going on here. Lockheed wants you to play a 1-Cost card as often as possible and Kitty ensures you always have one. It's that simple!

Ok, so I clearly really want Kitty Pryde + Lockheed to work. I've always loved Lockheed and want his card to succeed. Kitty Pryde is one of my favorite comic book characters and definitely one of my favorite Marvel Snap cards. But realistically I know it's possible her time has passed and that playing the ever-expanding roster of 1-Cost Skills is the better thing to be doing with Lockheed

1-Cost Skills

Merlin + Lockheed

Merlin provides the raw materials to keep Lockheed afflicting. You could even play Prowler as well and add Nicholas Scratch to your deck to fully lean in as a Skills deck. Have skills made Kitty Pryde obsolete?

Deafening Chord + Lockheed

With Deafening Chord and Lockheed we can reconstruct a Red Guardian in the aggregate! Why would we ever want to do that? I don't know, maybe we're already playing Red Guardian and want a second one. Or we're going to Afflict a couple more times. Or we're playing a Werewolf by Night deck (likely) and want to move him around a lot. Or Zombies or Angela or Hope!

Majestic Wingbeat + Lockheed + Shou-Lao

We're getting all three of these cards on the same day and it definitely feels intentional. I do think Lockheed is the odd one out, as he feels the most expendable, but if you're already playing a lot of 1-Cost cards, Lockheed is a great way to further leverage them.

This also means Werewolf by Night will be a natural fit in a Lockheed deck, however you want to build it. Werewolf by Night is shaping up to be the card of the season!

Bounce

I think bounce is a natural place to explore Lockheed, to get repeated value from our 1-Cost cards. If we throw in Joaquin Torres we can extract massive value from our 1s.

Silver Sable + Lockheed + Diamondback

Just playing this sequence of cards could result in as much as 14 Power for 6 Energy, though more likely 10 or 12.

Lockheed's Other Keyword

End of Turn? Woo boy! End of Turn decks certainly have enough great 1-Cost cards to keep Lockheed afflicting throughout the game and multiple times at the end.

I think Lockheed looks really fun and flexible enough that there are a lot of places to experiment with him. I do worry about him actually achieving meta impact in the current environment of huge combo decks, Cosmic Ghost Rider and Deafening Chord as tech, and a globally effective Luke Cage. He also feels a little slow tempo-wise for a 2-Cost card since you need to start playing on him to get benefit. Regardless, I'm gonna play the hell out of this adorable purple dragon and get a ton of variants for him, though he already has better than usual base art.
