Play the OTA: Decklists

Lauren and I ran through the OTA in our video here! Below I've got some sweet decks for you to try out!

What are the most exciting new ideas from the OTA? Here are some of the most promising decks to try out in the new metagame! Now with deck codes! Copy and paste the image caption in Snap. We have a more elegant fix to make deck codes easier to grab from our site coming very soon!

First up is High Evolutionary. The deck just got a ton of buffs, so it must be solid, right? Here is my favorite High Evo build.

Proportionally, the lower cost vanilla cards got bigger buffs than the higher ones. Does that mean Shocker can finally elbow his way into High Evo decks? If he has a chance it would be in a deck like this that is thirsty for discounts.

Wade Wilson just wasn't enough of an incentive or fallback, which were the roles asked of him in a Deadpool Destroy deck. If you destroy him on turn 3, you're not destroying your Deadpool until turn 4 at he earliest, and the +1 power just really wasn't enough of an attraction or mitigation to bad draws to justify the deck slot. Because his text says "double" and double is the name of the game in Snap these days, the +2 definitely has potential!

This deck is admittedly all in on Deadpool, but that's gotta be kinda the point when you're playing a deck with Deadpool and Wade Wilson, right? I also plan to throw Fastball Special right in there in place of Deathlok as soon as I get it.

The big problem with Morgan Le Fay decks has always been that they're way too all-in on Morgan. With the change to 3-Cost last OTA, she lost a consistency boost in Air Walker. But I think this change to Wade Wilson gives us an excuse to explore a little bit different system for Morgan that Xenaid came up with, where we can thin to increase our chances to get her, but still occasionally win without her with because we've thinned to get Death. The plan here is basically to just win with a combination of enough free power spilled out the board and power in unexpected places because of the variance and the hidden information of Headpool's buffs. Xenaid was playing it last week and it can't have gotten worse with an extra point of power! You need to be brave to risk your rank with this one, but if you're the kind of player who likes to go really off-meta, take it for a spin.

I'm not a huge fan of the Colossus change for a couple of reasons. First, I think it would have been way more interesting to make him a 5/10, despite the complications for lower series play associated with that. Its just a much more interesting design and a better flavor fit. Second, one of the only existing reasons to even think about running Colossus, was to avoid getting blown up by Shang Chi. Well, Shang Chi has been nerfed and isn't the same ubiquitous meta presence he once was, so it's a lot more questionable if Colossus is better than something like Jeff, Captain Marvel, or Symbiote Spider-Man in a build like this. Still, I want to play with Piotr and his great variants and this is an excuse for yet another secret Galactus deck, a real kink of mine.

Joaquin Torres is a fun card that I've especially had fun with in LTGMs, but he's never quite been able to find a deck that is strong in the meta that he helps out enough. One of the better kid-range decks right now is Werewolf with Zombies and Joaquin can do some awesome stuff in that deck.

There are a lot of ways to try out Ronan because of the Master Mold change, but this one lets you try Joaquin Torres in a different way as well!

Last, we can't finish without at least one Frankenstein mega-cope deck featuring multiple buffed cards! Formulate your plan based on where your opening hand leads you. Get one of your Redbird activators down early if you can, otherwise you can prioritize Invisible Woman over Redbird, and play a giant card late. You can reorganize your bots or move Redwing with Hellion to put your power where it needs to go.

Overall, I'm excited about the OTA. I always prefer when there are one or two major swings in an OTA, but this one being taken up largely by the buffs to the no-ability cards doesn't leave as much space for something wacky. But the change to Wade Wilson is interesting and I like cards like Joaquin, Cable, and Master Mold and would be happy to see them thrive. See you next time!
