January Card Rankings
Welcome to Dragon Season!
Dragons! Really? The season is just called “Dragons?” Not “Winged Terror” or “Young Dragons in Love” or something? Here are the eight new cards coming up in Marvel Snap's January season!

Lauren and Scott Rank Them All!
Lauren and Scott got together to compare their rankings for the Dragons season! Did they influence each other or was one of them convinced to tweak their rankings after discussion? Watch the video and then read about our final rankings below!
Lauren's Rankings
- Shou-Lao
- Fin Fang Foom
- Lin Lie
- Majestic Wingbeat
- Dragon Lord
- Shang-Chi
- Lockheed
- Dragon of the Moon
Further Thoughts:
Shou-Lao the Undying
+3 is such a big reward for a thing that many decks are happy and comfy doing anyway. Adding power to a full lane is cool. Will be a pain to play against. I expect it to get nerfed.
Fin Fang Foom
He feels too big to fail. 7 energy is not very difficult to ramp to, and there are plenty of ways to cheat this out, including Hela.
Lin Lie
2/11 seems big enough to compete against other strong 2-Costs. The quest seems pretty easy to pull off, even on the last turn.
Majestic Wingbeat
The big question for me is if the control of the targeting and the discount allows it to compete with America Chavez. I won’t be surprised to see a deck that LOVES the discount.
Dragon Lord
5/5 is a steep cost, but he lets you do his thing in a single step (unlike Redwing, Infinity Time Stone, Air-Walker, etc.). There’ll be decks that have no problem ensuring he pulls something big.
Shang-Chi, Master of the Rings
He feels just a little too slow and clunky to me. It’s a MASSIVE downside if the Rings cost you a draw (I expect they will). If they don’t, this will be the best card of the season.
Lockheed
The -2 per turn is just too small. His typical cap is 2/9, and comes with a steeper restriction than comparable 2-Costs.
Dragon of the Moon
This card makes me feel like I must be missing something. Power seems way too low. Best synergies are with bad cards. I expect it to get buffed.

Further Thoughts:
Shou-Lao the Undying
His condition seems really natural and easy to build around. +3 is insane. Good. Probably too good.
Lin Lie
If he's good in a small splashable package, he'll be great. It's hard to say how awkward and counterable he'll feel, but it's a lot of cheap points.
Fin Fang Foom
So, like a 7/20? It feels like a lot to commit to one lane. Definitely an upgrade for Hela. One of the best Dragon Lord targets. I love the idea of using Red Skull, but that could only work if you move one of them somehow afterwards, which will be tricky with the costs.
Majestic Wingbeat
1-Cost Skills are basically always going to be playable, and this seems better than Web-Sling, but not quite as great as Deafening Chord. This could be one of the sneaky-good cards of the season.
Shang-Chi, Master of the Rings
I think he eats a draw, but if he doesn't he'll be a must-buy. Baseline is 5/7-ish, but he'll need to be consistently 5/12+ to feel worth it.
Dragon Lord
A shenanigans card that I think is being overrated. When specifically built around he will have some incredibly powerful uses. He can be a 5/25 in the right deck.
Lockheed
I really love the design and I want him to be great. But I think he'll just be ok. I'm still gonna play him with Kitty, though, even if it's not optimal.
Dragon of the Moon
I honestly don't even get it. It will be fun to dust off Master Mold and Mordo, but what else is there here? Are you supposed to play it with no even-costed cards of your own? Or with a bunch of even-costed cards that you somehow benefit from Afflicting? Use it in an Affliction deck as a kind of different Scorpion? It can't hit the Goblins and it's too slow for setting up Annihilus shenanigans. I don't see the vision.
Be sure to check back next month and we'll see how we did and rate the February cards! Who's ready for more Guardians of the Galaxy?
