Tips & Tricks
I've compiled all the advice that I found myself repeating in every single event economy guide. If you haven't checked it out before (or if you need a refresher), I recommend checking it out. You can focus on the tips relevant to this event by reading any section with the High Voltage: Overdrive logo!

Grand Prizes
The Free Pass contains the new card, Ozymandias! He'll enter Series 4 in a month, but for now – this is the only way to get him. The Rocks archetype looks really fun!

The Premium Pass contains this exclusive Ozymandias Variant by Dardo Studios. Look closely to see his engravings of Magneto and Archangel.

Missions
Missions are the bottleneck of High Voltage. Unless you're playing a dozen hours each day, the vast majority of your Volts and XP will come from completing Missions.
High Voltage: Overdrive Missions grant 125, 250, or 500 Volts and XP upon completion.
- Starting Missions: 3
- Regenerating Missions: 3 every 8 hours
- Missions Cap: 3 (you cannot have more than this)
- Total Missions: 63
- Total Mission Volts + XP: 18,375
- Single Mission Cost: 40 Gold
The most important thing to know is that you should be prioritizing your Missions. You can find more info about Missions in the Event Economy Tips & Tricks guide.
Passes
The Premium Pass costs 800 Gold and comes with the following prizes whenever you buy it:
- 5,000 XP
- 2 Heavy Metal Borders
Here's everything you can find on each Pass (Premium instant rewards listed at 0 XP):
Premium Value
In terms of progress value (how close you get to acquiring your next card from the Token Shop), this event continues the pattern of the last several: 63.42% progress value.
The Premium Pass isn't a very good deal if you're trying to convert your Gold into cards – but it can be a good purchase if you have other priorities!
If you like the exclusive Ozymandias Variant or want extra cosmetics from the Shop, the Premium Pass is a great deal. It comes with 7,000 extra Volts to shop with.
If you just want to get Ozymandias as fast as possible, the Premium Pass saves a ton of time. 800 Gold gets you the card without playing a single game of Overdrive.
Time Investment
The event starts on Monday, March 23rd and ends on Monday, March 30th (running for seven days).
The high value of Missions means this Pass can easily be completed for free, even with a poor win rate.
The numbers below assume a 50% win rate. Other win rates would only have small differences, because so much of XP comes from Missions.
As you can see, the Premium Pass saves ~38 games on your way to Ozymandias, or ~26 if you want to finish the Pass.
Shop
Here's everything available in the Overdrive Shop:
Each Portal Pull will randomly pick one of these three Variants you don't have yet:
Shop Costs
This sub-section was added March 25th, two days into the event.
The Volt costs for items in the shop are quite high relative to your Volt income. It's clear that sort of comparison will need to be part of my event economy guides going forward. I'll keep it high-level this time (I'm short on time this week).
You only get 7,000 Volts from each Pass you complete. That 7,000 isn't enough for a Portal Pull, and that 14,000 (including Premium) isn't enough for the emote. If you spend your Pass Volts on other items, the emote alone will require over 17 full Mission sets to afford – and there will only be 21 over the course of the event. Sure, you get 20 Volts per win, but those are a trickle compared to Mission rewards.
It's disappointing and discouraging to see the Shop prices so steep. The grind is so demanding, it feels like there's little reason to play unless you just love High Voltage so much you'd play for fun.
Shop Priorities
It's up to you to know which cosmetics are more important to you than progress towards card acquisition. If you want to focus on progress value, here's how to prioritize the prizes. Ellipses represent big gaps in value differences.
- Cobra (unowned Series 4) in 1–2 pulls
- …
- Cobra (unowned Series 4) x 3 pulls
Master Mold (unowned Series 3) in 1 pull - Credits
- Collector's Series 4 Pack
- Series 3 Pack
- …
- Master Mold (unowned Series 3) in 2–3 pulls
- …
- All other Variants
Shopping with Gold
If you're short on Volts, you can spend Gold to cover the gap. It's not the best use of Gold, but if you're going to do it, make sure to prioritize which items to buy with Gold. Each item offers a different amount of Volts per Gold spent. Note I have changed this calculation versus past guides to make it more intuitive. Higher Volts per Gold means you're getting a better deal.
Expected Volts
If you stop playing as soon as you finish the Pass, here's how many Volts you'll have to spend:
- Free: 19,510
- Premium: 21,500
And here's roughly how many you'll have if you play enough to finish every Mission offered for free:
- Free: 26,635
- Premium: 33,635
These calculations assume each set of three Missions will take six games to clear. Your numbers may change a little depending on how quickly you clear Missions.
You can keep playing beyond that, but Volts will come in at a trickle when you're only getting 20 per win.
Conclusion
Events continue to show increased consistency in how much value is on offer. The place they've settled on is great! The new cards are easy to acquire for free, and reasonably priced if you just want to skip the event. I do wish the Shop prizes were a little easier to acquire by grinding, but it's very achievable to afford a few Shop prizes.
To be clear, this is a problem with High Voltage: Overdrive. The last run (January) had the same issue.
Personally, this will be my lightest event in a while. High Voltage (and Overdrive) is my least favorite way to play, and none of the cosmetics are so good that I'll push my way through. I'm glad High Voltage exists for the players who love it, but I'll be dipping out as soon as I earn Ozymandias.
I hope you enjoy the mode (or at least its prizes!). Don't forget to check out Scott's strategy guide for Overdrive to get strategy and decks!
