Burning Questions 4/3

Burning Questions 4/3

Welcome back to Burning Questions, a weekly stroll through hot Marvel Snap topics. This week we're talking about the silliest little card in a while, the silliest little game mode ever, and some of our excitement for next season!

1) Is Rama Tut a meme or actually good?

Despite a strong showing in his first week, I'm coming down on the side of meme, if just barely. I think this card has peaked in a lot of ways and will slowly fade from his hottest points in his first week. This feels likely for a couple of reasons. First, he's not the kind of card that requires more solving. We already know the ways to get more On Reveals out of him and I don't see many innovations on the horizon. I do think he's stronger than Kang, but just like Kang, when the novelty wears off people will play him less. He'll remain the type of card that you can absolutely play and find success with, but mostly because you're choosing to embrace him and enjoy him rather than because he's a must-play meta force.

2) What card are you most looking forward to next season?

Next season is full of interesting designs and powerful cards. The cards I'm most excited about are the ones I can find multiple different uses for. Cards that are narrow and powerful can win a lot of games, but the ones I'm most attracted to are the cards that I can dream up dozens of uses for.

Techno-Organic Virus

Techno-Organic Virus

Why I'm excited: The use that excites me the most is to to remove your own downsides, à la Zero, but I do want to see how ridiculous I can get with a virus deck that takes advantage of the virus text. Yeah, this is exactly the kind of middling card that gets into my bloodstream (at least for a few days).

Mother Askani

Why I'm excited: Not exactly the way I wanted Rachel Summers, a favorite character of mine, added to the game. But the discount + buff and then copy is such a fun mechanic that I think I'm going to find a bunch of fun ways to use this card. The obvious home is Victoria Hand, but just as deck-brewers have always found quirky uses for Moon Girl, so will they for Mother Askani.

3) What was your favorite Arena Grande deck?

Obviously Sersi! I know it wasn't the best deck. Statistically, it might even have been the worst! Destroy and Ongoing may have ruled, but they were good for the very same reasons I didn't like them, they're straightforward and consistent. In a mode where no one is going to take the time to learn all of the edges and you can't modify the decks to suit the environment, consistent decks are always going to perform well. But if you're not embracing a little silliness and fun in a 3 day April Fool's format, what is even the point? Hulks were pretty fun and silly too. And a million hammers was funny. What a silly little game mode!
