Burning Questions 4/17
1) Which buff will be more impactful, Horseman Wolverine or Techno-Organic Virus?
Horseman Wolverine got a substantial buff, essentially adding 3 Power to his package. That's partially a reflection of how far down he was, but such a large buff is unlikely to have no impact. I still think the play patterns of War Wolverine are a little awkward – you want to buff him and have him buff impactful cards, but you still have to fit in your buffers. Fortunately, +4 is so strong that you don't necessarily need to be hitting cards that can magnify that buff. I've seen this new Wolverine compared to Ms. Marvel, and it's pretty apt. They both give a big bonus for jumping through a hoop.
Techno-Organic Virus on the other hand hasn't changed in as fundamental a way. It's certainly better, but it still wants to be played with the same kinds of cards and in the same packages. TOV decks can cut Mobius M Mobius now and, between that and the cost reduction, they'll feel smoother and more consistent. I still think Sauron decks with TOV are promising and players are already finding interesting other uses.
2) Did Iron Patriot get buffed or nerfed?
Iron Patriot got 7 new cards added to his pool. Certainly having access to a discounted Fin Fang Foom sounds good, but is the increased pool a benefit overall or a dilution? Let's look at the new cards.
A 4-Cost Foom sounds great. But how good is a 5-Cost Death? Not amazing unless it's further discounted. Dormammu or Weapon H are still decent value at 13 or 14 Power for 5-Cost, but Arishem and Galacti are terrible hits. Overall it's clearly a nerf, but it will add variance that will make playing against Iron Patriot harder at the same time.
The Future
The upcoming cards that will join Iron Patriot's pool don't improve the situation.
3) Why isn’t there an emote for Sandstorm? What should it look like?
There should be! I can see why it wouldn't be a developer resource priority to make this and I'm sure we'll get one eventually. Here are some ideas for a Sandstorm emote:
- A single giant grain of sand
- A sandy-colored pyramid
- A swirling sandstorm tornado
And my favorite idea…
- Just a vague semi-translucent patch of dust with eyes
