What to do with Fin Fang Foom

What to do with Fin Fang Foom

In design fully fitting Jack Kirby’s Fin Fang Foom, he's the new biggest of the big boys. Like Infinaut, Blob, and Red Hulk before him, he'll be the de facto large body when you just need a large body. Sure, he costs 7, but this is 2026 Marvel Snap, that's barely a hurdle. I'll show you everything I'm excited to try with one of the most anticipated characters added to Snap in recent memory.

Everything I Want to Try with Fin Fang Foom

Size Matters

Just how big does he get? We don't necessarily always need him to be bigger than the Infinaut, but we do want him to be bigger on average across a large sample size of games.

Opponent's Front Row Fin Fang Foom’s Power
Nico Minoru, Merlin 16
America Chavez, Maverick (3) 17
Luna Snow, Ice Cube 18
Mr. Fantastic, Moonstone 19
Frigga, Moon Girl 21
Carnage (4), Winter Soldier 23
Cable, Sentry 25
Scarlett Spider (14), Shou-Lao 34
Ebony Maw, Infinaut 39

The beauty of Fin Fang Foom is that when we play him down on the last turn, we'll have a good idea of where he'll be able to win a lane. Especially at first, opponents are going to get rolled by a big lizard coming down in a lane they've invested large bodies into. Gradually, I expect players to adjust to Fin Fang Foom by filling their front rows with smaller cards, or at least doing so in lanes in which they intend to put something huge. Fin Fang Foom decks that are able to throw priority will be able to outpower their opponents more reliably.

Downsides Compared to Infinaut

Fin Fang Foom represents an upgrade to the Infinaut, but not in every scenario. The Infinaut slides in behind Cosmo perfectly, while Fin Fang Foom would only be a measly 12. Deep Space is always a great place to slam the Infinaut, but not Fin Fang Foom – there are location benefits like Kamar Taj though. Given the way 1 and 2-Cost cards curve out, it will be quite common for opponents to have just 3-5 power in the front row of a lane. A 15-17 power card is nothing to sneeze at, but it's not what we're looking for out of a card that wants to be an upgrade to Infinaut, Giganto, and Red Hulk. Infinaut is just Infinaut. He doesn't care if Hela positions him in front of a Squirrel and a Merlin, he'll be 20 Power regardless. Fin Fang Foom won't be a slam dunk upgrade to the Infinaut in absolutely every case – we will have to play and build in a way that makes him so.

You Either Pay His Cost or you Don't

Cheat Fin Fang Foom Out

There are plenty of ways to get a card onto the board without paying for it. We have Lockjaw, Redwing, Ghost Rider, Hela, and Khonshu. The newly released High Voltage: Overdrive prize, Dragon Lord, gives us a perfect new way that will beat any lane that has just two cards in it.

1-Cost card + Dragon Lord (for Fin Fang Foom) on Turn 6

Lady Sif ⇨ Ghost Rider (for Fin Fang Foom)

This is a classic combo that hasn't been seen recently. Most commonly this was used to bring back the Infinaut or Death. With a potentially bigger target, perhaps this small package could make its way back into the spotlight. It helps that this is a 7-Energy combo and Fin Fang Foom costs 7 – any deck that expects to have 7-Energy at some point most of the time can put these three cards in as plan A and plan B for the final turn.

Fin Fang Foom is an immediate add to Hela. Corvus can help us play him out, and win, even in games where Hela is hiding in our deck! Because he costs 7 and they don't overlap in cost, we don't even need to remove the Infinaut for him, we can play both! Scary!

Pay Fin Fang Foom’s Cost

The Infinaut requires us to completely skip a turn to play him out. Fin Fang Foom requires 7-Energy. There may have been a time Fin Fang Foom's was the harder hurdle, but those days are long gone. There are so many ways to play out a 7-Energy card that nearly any deck, not just ramp, can achieve it.

A 7-Cost card doesn't necessarily need to cost us 7 Energy. Majestic Wingbeat and Surge will make great additions to a Fin Fang Foom deck. We take a cue from how Zombie Galacti is being played and use Majestic Wingbeat and Surge to discount Fin Fang Foom, but some Galacti decks are even playing Phastos or First Steps Mr. Fantastic, and those (relatively weaker) cards should also be under consideration too given how powerful Fin Fang Foom can be. There is so much incidental Energy gain in the game now with Hope Summers, Superior Spider-Man, Once and Future in addition to the more traditional ramp cards. It's really all about what kind of deck you want to surround Fin Fang Foom with – there are options.

I don't really recommend counting on an unprotected Limbo at this time, but Magik is another option to play Fin Fang Foom late. There are so many more ways to get 7-Energy in Marvel Snap other than Magik. Fin Fang Foom will thrive in ramp decks with some combination of Electro, Luna Snow, and Wave.

Fin Fang Foom is a giant card that doesn’t always need to be ramped out. He fits into a variety of archetypes and can be accommodated by multiple play styles. That all adds up to a must-buy, even for those who tend to avoid giant stats cards. I’m looking forward to playing around with this iconic Marvel monster.
